Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials report early analysis show the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the vandalism left him speechless and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident affects the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
